Lawtronics 1974

When I left Philips I was seriously considering starting out on my own. I had assisted in developing the electromics of a system to synchronise sound to super 8mm cine film. A good friend Matt Skipp was running a photographic shop in Epsom and he had been working on it for years.

I devised a practical system.

However a more stable income was needed so I joined Bernard Lawson who ran an electronic distributors called Lawtronics, based in Edenbridge. I stayed with him for a couple of years until my own business had built up.

Whilst with Lawtronics we developed a miniature oscilloscope we called 'the microscope' and sold a couple of hundred of them in 2 years. We also developed test instruments that we sold to RS Components and Farnell. After I left they concentrated on custom power supplies

Lawtronics sold several special testers to RS Components in the '80's

Track Current Tester

Track Current Tester

25 years ago RS sold lots of these testers. The probe was held in contact with the track on the PCB and the current flowing was indicated on the LEDs. Very useful for fault finding on directly coupled audio amplifiers of the day
