Starlite 1990

I remember seeing a Tomorrow's world program of an amazing demonstration of a heat protecting paint. It was coated on a fresh egg and a blowtorch was played on it for several minutes with no noticeable effect except for some slight discolouration. The egg was then picked up and placed in the palm of the hand where it was found to be quite cool. It was then cracked open and was runny and uncooked.

The coating was called Starlite, invented by Maurice Ward, a hairdresser, in his kitchen with a few household items.

He refused to tell anyone how it was made or what was in it and took the secret to his grave in 2011.

There is lots to see about it on the web including the original Tomorrow's World program. It now appears to be owned by Thermashield who are still working on developing it to have a longer life span.
